Perspectives and Challenges in Statistical Physics and Complex Systems for the Next Decade: A Conference in Honor of Eugene Stanley and Liacir Lucena

Ernesto Raposo, Marcos da Luz  and I organized a physics conference last week (9-11 November 2011) here in Natal, Brazil:

Perspectives and Challenges in Statistical Physics and Complex Systems for the Next Decade: A Conference in Honor of Eugene Stanley and Liacir Lucena.

Here is the conference logo:

Boltzmann medalist Gene Stanley‘s many contributions to science are well known. Less known is the fact that he was elected a foreign member of the Brazilian Science Academy.   Liacir Lucena is the sole surviving founding member of the Physics Department at UFRN. Liacir and Gene have known each other and been friends since the 1970s, when Liacir got his PhD at Boston University under Bill Klein, who was also present at the conference.

It was the first time that all 4 authors of the Cambridge University Press book The Physics of Foraging were all present in one place since publication of the book.
